Dr Heather Carpenter is a Careers Consultant and counsellor with over 15 years experience in education and private practice. Her PH.D research is in Career Management. It examined the careers of older workers (over 45 years)  in depth and focused on identifying the effective career management skills and behaviours that sustain career progress and satisfaction in the 21st century environment.  She has also been involved in designing and producing many career programs; and in developing and writing programmes for tertiary institutions. She is a writer and lecturer for the newly developed Career Practice strand of the Bachelor of Social Services degree at Otago Polytechnic.

Her book, The Career Maze – guiding your children towards a successful future was published in July 2008, followed by Your 21st Century Career – new paths to personal success, in July 2010.

Heather’s current work and interests include

  • Developing tools and workshops for career professionals to develop skills.
  • Writing programmes and lecturing in career management at tertiary level.
  • Counselling individuals of all age and stages,  and working with individuals and groups in
    areas of career development and decision-making.
  • Counselling and research in ‘getting the life and success you want’

    I really enjoyed your presentation at the CDAA workshop on Saturday 20th August in Perth, and I am looking forward to reading through your book and implementing your career development strategies on myself first! :-)
